Among The People

Trinity Church doors and the Broad Street Parish House are open daily, and some 300 to 400 people each week seek sanctuary, counsel, and assistance through our clergy and Parish Office. If you can help through donations of clothes, non-perishable food, personal toiletries, or volunteering, please call Diane Donato at the Parish Office.

Food Pantry

Many people come to us in need of food. Our pantry stocks non-perishable food items, such as canned fruit, stews, meats, powdered milk, and cereal. Our greatest need is for easily opened non-perishable items that folks can eat on the street. Donations can be placed in the baskets at the entry to the church.

Clothing

For those who come to us in need of clothing, we collect donations of clean used clothes. Your continuing support is much appreciated by our daily guests. For community outreach we need:

  • Clothing for men (due to storage limitations, we ask that you bring seasonal items only)
  • Socks for men - many homeless men depend on the parish office for clean, dry socks
  • Men's underwear - sizes M, L, and XL
  • Deodorant

The Open Shelter, Inc.

At a recent meeting of the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless, Kent Beittel of The Open Shelter, Inc. made a statement thanking Trinity Church for taking them in more than three years ago when they were moved out of their facility near COSI by the city. He stated that by allowing The Open Shelter sanctuary to move into our Parish House they were able to stay alive and redevelop their advocacy program. The Open Shelter, Inc. has moved to St. John's Evangelical Church on Mound Street where they have a larger facility and many fewer stairs for their clients to reach them. We miss our friends and colleagues and wish them well in their new home.

Alcoholics Anonymous & Alanon

These groups meet Monday through Friday at 12 noon in Trinity's parish house, 125 East Broad Street. On Sunday, Alanon meets at 9 a.m. The Wednesday & Friday Alanon groups are designed for adult children of alcoholics. AA and Alanon recovery groups are central to our parish's commitment to providing significant community ministry. You may contact the Parish Office or the clergy to learn more about these vibrant groups.

St. John's His Place Dinners

Every Wednesday evening, on West Town Street, a dinner is offered for all. On six of those evenings during the year, Trinity Church furnishes the food, and Trinity volunteers serve dinner in fellowship with the people of Franklinton at St. John's Columbus (1003 West Town Street). We set up the dining room while the diners participate in worship; then we prepare and serve the meals and clean up afterward.

The dates for the upcoming Trinity/St. John's dinners are: April 4, September 12, October 24 and November 14. We are usually there by 4:30 pm to prepare and serve a meal at 6:30 pm. We are finished by 8:00 pm or before. Enter the basement kitchen by the side door leading downstairs.

For more information, email us at or call the Parish Office at 221-5351.

Elementary School Partnership

Trinity Church is a community partner at Siebert School on the south side of Columbus, and at Second Avenue School in the Short North Community. As part of the program, volunteers are needed to help children in grades one through four learn to read. Training is provided. For more information, contact the Parish Office.

Recycling used inkjet cartridges

The Parish Office staff recycles used inkjet cartridges to benefit both the environment and Trinity's community ministries programs. Please place your used cartridges (ink jet only- no laser cartridges, please) into the food basket at the entry to the church.
