StoddardBarbara Bruce Stoddard, 82, a former resident of Westerville and Gahanna and member of Trinity Episcopal Church, passed away on Thursday, June 30, at the Twin Lakes Memory Care Center in Burlington, N.C., after a lengthy illness. In 1951 she married John L. Stoddard, and they moved to the Columbus area in 1962. He was employed by Nationwide Insurance, and, after raising her two children, she worked as an actuarial analyst for the JCPenney Casualty Co. in Westerville until she retired in 1989. She and John, who died in 2006, were among the first residents of Annehurst Village, living there for 30 years until they moved to Gahanna and then to North Carolina in 1998. While living in Westerville, Barbara was a volunteer at the Annehurst School, a Girl Scout leader, a member of several garden clubs in Westerville and past president of the Ohio Council of Nationally Accredited Landscape Design Critics. She and her family were active members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus. She was born July 30, 1928, in Providence, R.I. She graduated from Brown University in 1950 and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi societies with high honors in mathematics. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne Stoddard and Ronald Gallagher of Carrboro, N.C.; and by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Elizabeth Stoddard of Charlestown, Mass. She is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren, Michael and Katie Gallagher and Philippa and Owen Stoddard; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bartholomew's, 204 W. Salisbury St., Pittsboro, NC 27312 or to the CORA Food Pantry, Box 1326, Pittsboro, NC 27312 (http://www.corafoodpantry.org/).  Published in The Columbus Dispatch on July 7, 2011
