| To our dear parish family: Carter Lilly is now into his fourth week in intensive/acute care for a very serious infection in major internal organs. He now is bedridden and requires total care. Communication is very difficult and sometimes frustrating. But we are finding little windows of light and joy in the midst of it all - where our Lord promised He would be. One of them has happened in the last couple of days: As you know, some thirty years ago, the services of Trinity were signed for the deaf members of our congregation. Many of us learned the alphabet and some common signs from Virginia Held, a principle signer and wife of our stellar organist Wilbur Held. As I was struggling to hear and understand something Carter was trying to say to me, I noticed his fingers were "fidgeting" and I thought he was shaking. Suddenly it hit me that HE WAS SIGNING a word to me! Just think of that! The loving ministry of Ginny Held was coming to fruition again thirty years later in my gravely ill husband so he could rise above his situation and "speak!" This gave us a rare moment of joy and victory, thanks be to God! One never knows what will be the impact of things we do and speak and are in the service of our Lord Jesus! One does surely know that in the Lord and His family the Church, we are held together in His love and strengthened for His service across the barriers of time and space - for this life and the Life beyond! Living these difficult days upheld by your prayers has been a great blessing... In His most wonderful love, Elizabeth+ |
